Crowlees Photography Project - Day 3
It was my third day at Crowlees J&I School today and it has been another super day! The children brought in some of their treasured possessions and in pairs they had to decide how they wanted to photograph them, using the school and its colourful surroundings as a back drop. They explored their school looking for suitable locations and creative angles in which to capture interesting and unusual images of their possessions. The children worked amazingly all day, sharing ideas and discussing how to capture and process their images. By the end of the session they were confidently discussing concepts such as lighting, composition, perspective and depth of field and were excited about creating more photographic images at home!
And here are some of the images the children captured of their treasured possessions...
Throughout the week I have been hanging up prints of the children's images as they have produced them. I am really impressed at the amount of work they have produced and think their work looks great pegged up around school! YR

Crowlees Photography Project - Day 2
I have just had another amazing day at Crowlees J&I School in Mirfield, on their Arts 4 All Photography project. I have been working with Y5 pupils to capture images throughout their school on mobile devices and then process them for creative effect in a range of apps. The children have approached their photography very creatively, exploring many ways in which to capture interesting images. Today we focused on numbers, letters, portraits and shadows and due to the creative angles used, the children have produced some wonderful images.
And here are some of their images - they had great fun stitching images in various apps...
The children also used some of their images as inspiration for drawing and produced some 'extended drawings - drawing beyond the frame', and also drew directly from their images on the iPad and the iPod Touch. The children had a fantastic day and are creating a wonderful set of imagery for presentation in their book. YR

Crowlees Photography Project - Day 1
Today was the first day of the Photography Project at Crowlees J&I School, Mirfield as part of the Kirklees Arts4All Scheme. The day began with a brief introduction and then all 60 Y5 children took part in an 'extended drawing' activity where they explored "beyond the frame" of photographs that had been captured throughout their school. They produced some amazing drawings, some of which are shared below:
For the rest of the day I was working with small groups of children to explore the school through creative photography using mobile devices such as iPod Touchs, iPhones and iPads, capturing intriguing images from all kinds of angles.
Children also began processing their images through a variety of apps.
Throughout the week the children are looking to create a library of images that will feature in a book, along with drawings and creative writing that they produce, inspired by their own photography. They have already captured lots of images and have ideas for many more! YR
