Wildlife Explorations - Amazing Animals - Fin

Friday was my last input on the 'Amazing Animals' project at Birkby Junior School in Huddersfield. The morning was focused on working with groups of pupils across year one (I worked briefly with around 50 children) using iPads and the Brushes app to embellish and develop images which were created originally in pen and wash. The afternoon saw the construction of the final images on large boards in the Hall and outside the Year 1 classrooms. This was an ambitious and enjoyable project, where 5 and 6 year old pupils created a sustained body of work based on initial drawing experiments and observed drawings, which were then developed into individual pieces and finally a collective large scale work.

Scholes Photography Project - Day 4

I have just finished the last day of delivery for the photography project at Scholes J&I School. This final day saw the children processing images on iPads and iPod Touchs, ready for their Montage Print. They also worked in Photoshop on Apple iMacs creating composite images from the hundreds of pictures they captured throughout the project. The children have been amazing, a real joy to work with and their Montage is looking fabulous. I will upload it very soon once it is ready for print. In the meantime here are some images from the final day. YR

And here are a few images created by the children that will feature in the Montage Print

Wildlife Explorations - Days 4 & 5

Following 2 days of sketching and a fantastic trip the the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Year 1 children at Birkby Infant and Nursery School developed there ideas and images further using techniques they had already explored, in conjunction with new materials and new approaches to mark making. They have developed their initial sketches into cardboard based paintings using pen and ink and Posca pens. The children are working towards a series of large scale composite images which will be displayed in the school hall.

Wildlife Explorations - Visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Today was day 3 of the Amazing Animals project with Year 1 children at Birkby Infants School. I joined the whole year group and staff on a fantastic visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Again the children impressed me with their amazingly observed and enthusiastic drawings. All of the images below are made with HB pencil on plain exercise book paper. They include images of meerkats, lemurs, a zebra and camels. FL

Scholes Photography Project - Day 3

The Y5 children at Scholes J&I School have impressed me once again with their endless enthusiasm towards photography and mobile devices. We have spent another day exploring the school from unusual and interesting angles and it has been such a beautiful day we were lucky enough to be able to take photographs outside. The children have been a pleasure to work with and have produced lots more fantastic images. It is the last day tomorrow which will see us processing the final designs for the montage print. In the meantime, here are some images from today...
